This is the space between JA's love/psychedelic earlier work and the serious/rock-god style of their work to follow. It is the fourth of their eight albums, and it truly is the point between their third (Baxter's) and fifth (Volunteers). Opening with Lather and ending with House At Pooneil Corners, this is not a flippant rock album; it is powerful. If You Feel is tremendously cool and is one of my favourite JA recordings. Jorma's own pensive Star Track must have meant a lot when it was made and, though the song stands well on it's own, it is additionally interesting as a significant point in Jorma's on-going career. Share a Little Joke, Crown of Creation, and Greasy Heart, along with all the rest make this album exceptional. A perfect balance of existential beauty and powerful cool. The album does have a very orange-sound and warm feel to it, making the cover art fitting. I would not know Jorma Kaukonen and Hot Tuna, or even Jefferson Airplane (except for a few songs) and the rest, were it not for this brilliant album made over forty years before I first heard it.
