Tell Your Story - Create Your Own Blues Song
“The Blues is the true facts of life.” - Willie Dixon “The Blues is truth.” - Brownie McGhee
These quotes from two of the greatest blues songwriters say it all. Every one of us experiences the same basic emotions of love lost, love found, sadness, humor, loneliness, and joy. By taking a life experience and telling your own story with truth, you can create a blues song that will reach the hearts and souls of the listener. I’ll teach different forms of the blues including the basic 12 bar blues, the 8 bar blues, and the 1 chord blues form. We’ll explore chord substitutions that add a little flavor to the basic chord changes, different tunings, bass lines, and the importance of the right hand to establish grooves and feels. I teach that “less is more”, and “you can say a lot with a little” in your songwriting and guitar playing. With these tools you can create a blues song telling a story of your life.
My workshops are very relaxed and easy going, like dropping by my house for a visit. As well as teaching, I'll be telling some stories of my time with the old bluesmen and the lessons I learned about music and life.
