FPR on the Road at Wanee

Let Us Get Together Right Down Here!

Fur Peace Ranch at Wanee 2012!

This years Wanee Festival will welcome Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch to the festival site. The award winning Fur Peace Ranch… now in it’s 15th year has made a name for itself and set the bar for guitar/music instruction.

Jorma Kaukonen, one of the founding members of Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, is a renowned guitar teacher. In 1998, after 35+ years of teaching, which began in the 1960's while he was in attendance at Santa Clara University, Jorma and his wife Vanessa founded the Fur Peace Ranch to solidify, expand and preserve American Folk/Roots and Blues music styles by providing unparallelled instruction. At the Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio, which has become North America's premier center for the study of folk/roots guitar, Jorma enlists himself and other World-Class musicians to pass along their experience, techniques and theories to budding musicians in an intimate setting over a long weekend in the tranquil, rolling hills of Southeast Ohio. Artists such as Warren Haynes, Tim Reynolds, Tommy Emmanuel, David Bromberg, Larry Campbell, Chris Smither, Pete Huttlinger, GE Smith, Stefan Grossman, Chris Hillman, Larry Coryell, Bill Nershi, George Porter Jr., Herb Pedersen, Peter Rowan, Oteil Burbridge, just to name a few, and thousands of students have all passed through the gates of the Fur Peace Ranch. While the Fur Peace Ranch focuses and specializes in folk/roots guitar, instruction is also offered in the areas of jazz, rock, and blues guitar as well as other instruments.

Wanee Music Festival LogoFur Peace Ranch, for the very first time, now takes a festival version of their workshops On-The-Road to the Wanee Festival. Festival attendees will be able to participate in Guitar Workshops with Jorma Kaukonen, Bass Workshops with Jack Casady, Percussion Workshops with Mickey Hart and other workshops and Q&A sessions with this years Wanee performers all hosted by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Jorma Kaukonen. These sessions will provide Wanee attendees a very rare and unique opportunity to “peek behind the veil” and hear first-hand from the musicians themselves about the music we all love so much!

We hope you will be able to join us for one of these very special events!

Workshops

Due to the limited time available for these workshops and to help best convey the nature, quality and intimacy of Fur Peace Ranch these workshops will be limited to 25 students per session (unless otherwise noted). Workshops/Clinics are open to all qualified musicians. Applications will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis.

Guitar students will need to bring an acoustic guitar along with them to the festival (and workshop).

Bass students will need to bring their bass guitar to the festival (and workshop). Bass amps will be provided to students for the class session.

All workshops $75*

Q & As

Our Q & A sessions are open to everyone. These will fundamentally be an open discussion between a moderator (Jorma) and a specified performer about music, music history, the culture of music and its inter-relation to social history. Their discussion will be followed by a Q & A session from the audience (or participants will be able to submit questions). We expect that these discussions will be educational, informative and fun! (and a great way to preview future programs that will be offered by the newly formed Fur Peace Ranch Center for Art and Culture).

All Q & As $50*

Focus on the things you love, listen with an open heart, and the music will speak for itself! - Jorma Kaukonen

*Please note: Ticket holders for the Fur Peace Ranch workshop or Q&A sessions will need a Wanee Festival ticket to enter the grounds of the festival. You will not be able to enter the festival site to attend an FPR event without one. Wanee Festival tickets are available at the Wanee Ticket Office
