Acoustic Acoustic Blues Tools

Level 2/3

This workshop focuses on blues guitar stylings. Beginning with the important 'shuffle' rhythm guitar figure, Patrick will demonstrate the construction of lead guitar runs while maintaining 'walking blues' line. These techniques will also be applied to slide or 'bottleneck' guitar styles in both standard and open tunings. Styles will include East Coast Piedmont, Delta and North Mississippi, as well as early Texas and Chicago Blues styles, and can be interpreted on both acoustic and electric guitar.

About Patrick Sweany

Patrick Sweany is a force in blues and roots-oriented music. This young powerhouse musician from Massillon, Ohio performs a mixture of styles, drawing on the traditions of the Mississippi delta and Northeastern Hill country, the wild jug band sounds of Memphis, early Piedmont and ragtime blues finger picking, the driving boogie of the West Helena, Arkansas slide guitar tradition, the howl of the early Texas blues men, and a little West Coast Swing and New Orleans R&B. These diverse influences come together seamlessly in Patrick's recording debut to showcase a unique style, firmly rooted in the blues. His style was cultivated from years of listening to his father's playing and in church, plus an extensive record collection of blues and folk artists. In the music of artists as Patton, MacDowell, Hopkins, Memphis Slim, Witherspoon, Montgomery, and Leadbelly, Patrick found a universal element that has guided him. "...gave your CD a listen...... Wow! I can't remember when I have been so blown away... You really have put it all together!" - Roy Book Binder www.patricksweany.com
