Exploring Bass Grooves from the Bayou and Beyond

Level 2/3

Workshop students will benefit from Lee's rich musical heritage & experience. He will demonstrate and discuss his zydeco infused bass technique in great detail.

Students will learn cronological bass technique and structure patterns for different styles of music, including but not limited to Zydeco. They will learn to create the foundation for various grooves, and emphasis will be put on approach and phrasing.

Students will hone their playing attack and dominance. Also included will be the exploration of various rhythmatic styles within Zydeco, blues, R&B, and Soul music. Players will learn to be proficient at playing in the pocket, holding it down & locking it in with the drummer.

About Lee Allen Zeno

In addition to his more than 3 decades of holding down the bottom end for Buckwheat Zydeco's Il Sont Partis Band, Lee Allen Zeno has recorded and performed with Irma Thomas, Carl Weathersby, Dalton Reed, Charlie Rich, & The Holmes Brothers.

Throughout the 1990's Lee Allen was the top call session man for most of the Blacktop recording artists at New Orleans' Ultrasonic Studios, including Solomon Burke, Guitar Shorty, Bobby Parker, and Phillip Walker.

For 3 consecutive years starting in 2006, he recorded at the Blue Heaven Studio's BLUESMASTERS AT THE CROSSROADS series in Salina Kansas, adding to his resume, artists Archie Bell, Chick Willis, Jean Knight, Barbara Lyn, and Clarence "Frogman" Henry.

With his creole roots in southwest Louisiana, Lee Allens blending or traditional zydeco grooves with touches of blues,funk, soul & reggae, he's created a style uniquely his own.
